The two best ideas that I learned about integrating technology from my peers’ presentations:
1. I learned more about Smart boards. A girl in my group shared how she had a PowerPoint on her Smart board for her 6th grade class. She was able to click on pictures to enlarge them and kids were able to write on the board. I had no idea all the amazing things those boards could do.
2. I also learned of great sites that you can visit that can help students understand concepts in math, science, english, writing, etc. One of the sites that she showed us was: beaconlearningcenter.com - really cool site to help students understand key objective concepts in all grades!

Internet Safety Talk
I talked to my sister and her best friend Becca. They thought I was so weird for even talking to them about internet safety but they wanted to help me out. I told them the stories about the girl who met someone in the chat room and went to visit him. I asked them if they have ever been in chat rooms, they said they did when they were in middle school. I told them to be careful and never give out information about themselves. They told me about their experiences online and asked me what I thought of it. It was a really great discussion. They told me that they were glad that I told them these things. My sister said she will never talk to anyone that she doesn't know. I think I freaked her out a bit. Becca said that she will be careful, but she still might talk to people that she did not know. She said that she has met some great friends. I told her to be aware because you never know who you are talking to online, the people that they say they are might really be someone completely different. They had a good time talking to someone who was older and wiser :) and hearing about internet safety. I'm glad I was able to talk to both of them.

Internet Safety Questions
1. What article did you choose to read for your fourth article?
An Ensign to the World, A Light to the Nations - Gordon B. Hinckley
2. What were the most important things you learned from the readings?
That temptation is everywhere, in entertainment, on the Internet, in the movies, on television, in cheap literature, and in other ways. Peer pressure he said may be the most overpowering . My favorite quote that he said was, "you must take the long look ahead rather than succumbing to the present seductive temptation."
I am more weary of media. I hate how temptation is everywhere, but it is. It seems like no place is safe. I will make sure that my children and students are aware of the things that can happen. I will need to teach internet safety, media safety, and such.
4. How can you use what you have learned from the reading to have a positive influence on family and friends?
I will encourage family and friends to not support bad media such as artists who have suggestive songs and not watch movies or tv shows that are suggestive.

We need to be careful about the entertainers in our life, many youth of our think of them highly. These artists, grow rich from high admission prices, even when their songs are suggestive.
He also mention pornography and said that it can enslave and destroy you. Pretty much, the sanctity of sex is utterly destroyed in its salacious portrayal in the media. That which by its nature is inherently beautiful is corrupted in its popular presentation.

Technology Enhanced Lesson!
This week I taught a lesson on the Water Cycle. In order to help explain the water cycle, I used a projector to show a website that had the water cycle in motion. After explaining the water cycle via the website and doing a song all together we did an art project that showcased what we knew about the water cycle. While students were doing their art project, 2 students were called at a time to play on the website and click on objects to help them better understand what they had learned. The kids had so much fun! The students were stunned the second they saw the website up on the white board, their teacher never has used her projector this year. These usually wild students sat through and listen intently as I explained how the water cycle works. Using technology in this way was the best thing that has ever happened to this class. They not only had fun but they learned about the water cycle! I love learning and fun in the same sentence! :)

Technology Enhanced Lesson
In my classroom something that I think I will be doing at the end of this week is giving a lesson on the Water Cycle. During this lesson we will have a interactive water cycle website page up on the projector showing the class how the water cycle works in motion. We will let students in pairs come up and spend a minute looking up close on the computer to see how it works. We will be doing an art project about the water cycle and also a worksheet, I think the Water Cycle can best be taught with technology added into the mix! This will be a great technology enhanced lesson!

Classroom Technology Inventory
I was amazed at how many computers Cherry Hill Elementary in the Alpine School District owned. The school is very run down and looks very old on the outside and on the inside. What isn't new about the school is it's technology. Every teacher is provided with their own Mac laptops and there are 42 Mac computers available in the computer lab. All teachers have a TV, overhead projector, and cd player. They are able to check out video cameras, cameras, and computer projectors.
I am in a first grade classroom and there are two computers in the classroom. My teacher has students rotate on the computers during the literacy hour of the day. Students get so excited to be able to get to use the computers, it is their favorite part of the day. My teacher uses her lap top computer for taking attendance and she has created many PowerPoint slide shows to teach her students about certain topics in the curriculum. I hope I will be able to utilize the technology we have available at Cherry Hill so I can be a computer savvy teacher and be able to teach some cool things using technology!

Digital Storytelling TPACK
o What is the content you’ll be using in your lesson?
This is a silly poem about a girl who mistakes skiing for water skiing and is all ready to go and ski in the mountains when she realizes when her friends come to pick her up that really it is to go water skiing. This silly poem will be captured through photos put into a movie presentation with music and voices.
o What is the pedagogy you’ll be using and why is it a good fit with the content?
The pedagogy that they will be learning from this activity is the fun you can have with poems. Poems can tell a story. They will hear words that rhyme and phrases that sound good together.
o What is the technology you’ll be using and why is it a good fit with the content and pedagogy?
To bring this story to life, students will act out each scene. The digital camera will capture the moments of these kids in action. Then the story will be brought to life with Photo Story as we will record our voices over and put music to our digital pictures.

The Tech Savvy Teacher
Standard 5, Objective 3 for 3rd grade science is to demonstrate that heat may be produced when objects are rubbed together. There are differences in the amount of heat given off depending on different surfaces and conditions. To explore this concept, we use probes to measure temperature and record the data on the computer as a line graph!
First, we measured the temperature of our hand. At a resting rate, our hand’s temperature was approximately 78 degrees Fahrenheit. Then we rubbed our hands together, creating friction to see if the temperature of our hands would increase. Using the probe, we found that the temperature of our hand increased to 79.6 degrees!
We rubbed lotion on our hands and found that the temperature surprisingly went back down!
To experiment with different surfaces, we tested a sweatshirt and white board erasers.
The coat was about 77 degrees before we rubbed it together. After rubbing the coat together, the temperature rose to 80 degrees.
We also rubbed the two erasers together and this produced a temperature of 82 degrees!
Integrating technology into your curriculum enhances your lessons, and kids have fun! Using these probes gave students the opportunity to graph data and do tests to discover the unique facts about friction and heat production!

TPACK & Science
TPACK means Technological Pedagogical And Content Knowledge. The TPACK framework has three kinds of knowledge at its core.
Pedagogical knowledge (PK) can be defined as general knowledge and skills related to teaching. This kind of knowledge has to do with children
Content knowledge (CK) is knowledge of the facts, concepts, and skills that exist in a particular domain. This would be a college professor.
Technological knowledge (TK) is the knowledge required to understand and use various technologies. This would be some kind of computer nerd, who designs computer programs and such.
It is important as teachers to have some knowledge in all these areas. If we are going to be teaching kids skills we need to teach them the basics and we need to be experienced in all these areas.
Today in class, I got to play with a thermometer that plugs into the computer. It was so cool! We put the thermometer into water and then would take it out of the water and put our hands on it. It was so fun to see how the temperature would rise and fall. I had no idea you could plug a thermometer into a computer! The things I learn into this class...Love it!!

RSS and Web 2.0 tools
I learned what RSS and Web 2.0 tools are today!
RSS- is a way to direct regularly changing site information to a single place, like a blog or gmail or other places! So, instead of searching all over the internet for the weather, the news, so-and-so's new blog post, or the most recent thing happening at BYU, I can have it all come to my blog! This means, you don't have to deal with lots annoying emails or spending lots of time locating each site. HOW COOL! As an educator, I will be able to view newsletters that my school might update and I will be able to view it as soon as it is updated if they have an RSS link linked to it.
Web 2.0- Web 2.0 websites allow users to do more than just retrieve information. 2.0 enhances the web for one's own creativity, communications, sharing, and functionality of the world wide web.Take facebook for example, you can add photos, change your status, write comments, etc. It's an interactive website, made for the purpose of your own social and communications usage! 2.0 is a beautiful thing that has improved the web and made it an amazing place where we can all stay connected and "be involved" on the internet. As an educator, 2.0 is great because all teachers can post what kinds of lessons they have done in the past on websites, and by searching I could find lessons that have worked and be able to get ideas and also tell teachers about things that have worked for me.

1st Day of Class
I love technology. I am no pro, but I like learning new things. I am actually dating a boy that is going into computer science, so he is teaching me some tricks of the trade. On computers, I like editing photos, blogging, facebooking, and emailing :) I am excited to learn more things that I can do with technology! Wahoo!!
